The Ecological Movement and the Cyprus Young Greens in collaboration with the Association of Volunteers for Emergency Situations (ETEA), held a cleaning up operation on Saturday, 3 July 2010 at the area of St. Anargiri, Cape Greco.
This cleaning is part of the campaign to clean up the Mediterranean (Clean Up the Med) organized by The Italian environmental organization Legambiente. The purpose of this campaign is the people of Mediterranean to contribute to the cleaning of Mediterranean basin.
Our associates from ETEA showed that they are not only involved in life saving operations, but they also meet the urgent need to rescue our ecosystem, directly linked with the quality of life. Experienced divers the ETEA undertook the cleaning of bottom of the sea from wastes such as cans of beer, shoe insoles, water bottles, irons and ropes.
On the other hand, members and friends of our organizations, cleaned the area around the church of St. Anargyroi also collecting cans of beer, broken bottles, paper bags and cigarette butts.
The two previous cleaning had taken place in Lara Beach and the beach of Kourion, on 9 and 29 May 2010 respectively. These areas are places of nesting turtles and proclaimed protected areas.
